Some MSFS 2024 players on Steam got a black screen at launch with FS Ozone installed. We bought the Steam version to reproduce it, and got it on the first try.

The cause: Steam loads its own overlay file into the simulator, even when the Steam overlay is turned off. That file and FS Ozone were both hooked onto the same spot, where each frame is sent to the screen. They kept handing the frame back to each other in a loop, so the simulator was running but never showed anything. The Xbox version doesn't have that file, which is why only Steam players were affected, and why turning off the Steam overlay didn't help. The fix: FS Ozone no longer hooks that shared spot. It now attaches only to the simulator's own image and leaves alone what other tools use. Tested on Steam: no more black screen, with the Steam overlay on or off, and themes apply to every frame with no loss of smoothness.

Setup: a new page shows the DLLs already in the simulator folder, for example ReShade or OptiScaler, and lets you choose the name FS Ozone is installed under. Tick "Choose manually" and pick a free DLL from the list, or keep "Automatic (recommended)", which works as before. Setup never replaces another program's file.

Theme creation: a new HDR box next to ReShade, OptiScaler and REX Atmos under "Created with", to say that a theme was made on an HDR screen. A theme made in HDR does not look the same on a screen without HDR.

Patch note: the window now grows with the text instead of showing a scroll bar, and it opens by itself at each start of the Studio until you close it.

• Black screen at launch for some users with DLSS frame generation: we are investigating. A similar issue has been reported online with other software than Ozone. Meanwhile, turning off DLSS frame generation in the simulator lets Ozone start. We are working on a fix.

What's new in FS Ozone 1.2.1

• The Ctrl+Alt+F keyboard shortcut now turns both fisheyes off and on together, Horizontal fisheye and Fisheye. Handy to turn a cockpit knob, since with a fisheye the mouse no longer lands exactly on it. It keeps your slider values and gives them back.

• Setup now checks whether Windows compatibility settings are set on FlightSimulator2024.exe, such as "Disable fullscreen optimizations". With them, Windows loads its own version.dll into the simulator before FS Ozone, so the image effects never run. Setup tells you, and shows you which boxes to untick in the Compatibility tab of the simulator's properties. It does not change them for you.
